Genetically speaking green is actually very close to orange. If you have a field pumpkin then it will turn orange come September. Otherwise it might just stay a shade of that color.<br /><br />Many giant pumpkin growers like the white pumpkins. Colorado's state record pumpkin last year was white and very heavy to the charts. If it is white now then it will never be a true orange. If it is light yellow then it might turn a light orange.
